2 inmates protest atop AC unit at Montgomery Co. jail

Posted: Updated:

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - Authorities in Clarksville say two state inmates being housed at the county jail climbed up onto an air conditioning unit 15 feet in the air and made demands of the jail staff for nearly 24 hours before coming down on their own.

The Montgomery County Sheriff's Office said the inmates, Lucian Buchholz and David Morse, climbed up to the unit on Wednesday morning and came down around 8 a.m. on Thursday.

Sheriff's spokesman Jamie Dexter told The Leaf-Chronicle that the two inmates had just 12 inches between the top of the AC unit and the ceiling, so they had to lie down during their protest.

One of the inmates was demanding to go to a hospital and the other wanted to be transferred to a state-run facility. Both are serving 10-year sentences on robbery charges.
