JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Darian "Drake" Pierce and Ricky Wedgeworth have pleaded guilty in federal court to kidnapping an Ohio man in Vicksburg after escaping from the Louisiana State Police Headquarters in March 2011, according to U.S. Attorney Gregory Davis.

The men were both serving 25-year sentences. Prosecutors say the two traveled to Vicksburg where they assaulted, carjacked and kidnapped David Cupps of Ohio. Cupps died as a result of the assault. His body was found the next day in a field in Alabama.

The inmates were captured March 14 in Memphis.

Wedgeworth and Pierce will be sentenced May 30. They each face a maximum penalty of life in prison.
