FLOWOOD, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

The Mississippi Blood Services wants your blood this Valentine's Day! Thursday marks the seventh annual Valentine's Day blood drive.

A number of donors made their way to the Mississippi Blood Services in Flowood even before doors opened at 6:00 a.m. Donor Nichole Shaver has the universal blood type, O-. Shaver said giving blood means a lot more than giving roses and gifts on Valentine's Day.

"This will help other people you know you have so much and you can give just a little I mean it only takes 30 minutes to an hour at the most so you can give save lives and help at the same time," said Shaver.

Chief Meteorologist Barbie Bassett and cartoonist Marshall Ramsey will sign Valentine's Day blood drive t-shirts around lunchtime.

When you donate blood you qualify for jewelry from Carter's Jewelry, dinner for two and movie passes.

Doors to the Mississippi Blood Services are open until 7:00 PM Thursday. The address is 115 Tree Street in Flowood.
