Shooting investigated in Reservoir neighborhood

RANKIN COUNTY, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Rankin county investigators say a man and his ex-wife's current fiance were both shot while struggling over a gun Friday night at a Reservoir subdivision.

Sheriff Bryan Bailey said the suspect was injured with his own weapon.He is identified as 35 year old Yarnell V. Bryant of Brandon.

Deputies responded to the scene in the 100 block of Appleridge Drive off Holly Bush Road shortly before nine p.m.

When authorities arrived Bryant and an un-identified man were fighting on the front porch. Sheriff Bailey said Bryant is the ex-husband of the unnamed homeowner. The victim is her current fiance.

According to deputies, Bryant drove to the house and argued with the man. When Bryant pulled a gun, the man grabbed the gun and the two struggled.

The weapon discharged, striking the victim in the hand. That bullet then entered Bryant's leg and foot.Both men were transported to University Medical Center.

Bryant is charged with aggravated assault and being held without bond.

His initial appearance is scheduled for Tuesday.
