MS Quarter Horse Show wraps up

JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Cowboys and cowgirls saddled up for the last day of the Mississippi Quarter Horse Show on Sunday.

More than 3,000 exhibitors from 48 states and at least two countries took part in the week long show.

Quarter horses are considered one of the most versatile and athletic breeds of horses.

This show is the third largest in the country and has a large economic impact on the city, according to organizers.

For many that attend, showing horses is a family tradition that starts at a young age.

"It establishes an awesome work ethic for kids. I mean they have to saddle horses, they have to feed horses, they have to groom horses. I mean, it's basically a job and then they get to enjoy the show and the awards," said Show Manager Tommy Andrus.

Competitors at the show range in ages from four to 68.
