Crime lab says Mindy McCready's death was suicide

Posted: Updated:

HEBER SPRINGS, AR (KAIT/AP) - Authorities in Cleburne County say preliminary results indicate country singer's death to be suicide.

According to the Cleburne County Sheriff's Office, preliminary autopsy results from the Arkansas State Crime Lab confirms Malinda G. "Mindy" McCready's death was suicide.  The results indicate her death was due to a single gunshot wound to the head.

The sheriff's office was dispatched to a report of gun shots fired to McCready's Heber Springs home around three in the afternoon on Sunday.

Officers arrived shortly before four in the afternoon and discovered the body of 37-year-old McCready on the front porch of the residence.  They also found a dog on the front porch where her longtime boyfriend, musician David Wilson, died last month of a gunshot wound to the head.

Investigators have said McCready apparently shot and killed her late boyfriend's dog before she turned the gun on herself Sunday.

Authorities are investigating Wilson's death as a suicide but haven't determined an official cause of death yet.
