BLACKSBURG, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Changes are on the way at Blacksburg High School after the principal said its athletic booster club tried to raffle off a gun for money.

Principal Craig Bramlett said he found out about the gun raffle Monday night - and by that time, 600 tickets had been sold.

The school has been quick to distance itself from the booster club since the school found out about the raffle, which was meant to raise money for the school's sports teams.

The prize was a Sig Sauer 938.

Bramlett said neither he nor the school district were consulted about it, but he said that will change in the future.

"I just think we need to work on some procedures for the booster club to follow to keep me informed, as well as other people informed in our district as to what they're doing for our school," he said.

There's no word if the booster club will offer a substitution to the prize, go forward with the raffle or refund the money.

Calls to the Blacksburg High athletic booster director went unanswered Tuesday night.
