72-year-old woman arrested in East Nashville drug bust

NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

A teddy bear stuffed with $14,754 cash was confiscated when a 72-year-old woman was arrested Tuesday in connection with a drug bust in East Nashville.

Police received a tip about drugs at a home in the 870 block of Sharpe Avenue.

When police arrived, they arrested Mary Scales after officers discovered more than two pounds of marijuana in her bedroom along with the bear stuffed with thousands in cash.

Police also found a .45 caliber pistol that was reported stolen last year. 

Investigators said Scales was not cooperative during the search and refused to speak to detectives about what they found.

She is charged with possession of marijuana for resale, unlawful gun possession in the commission of a dangerous felony, theft (for possessing a stolen pistol) and unlawful use of drug paraphernalia.
