EF-2 tornado destroys Jeff Davis Co. homes

JEFFERSON DAVIS COUNTY, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

The National Weather Service confirms a tornado touched down in the a Jefferson Davis County community Thursday night.

MEMA says two houses and a mobile home in the Greens Creek Community were completely destroyed by the EF-2 tornado. Other houses were damaged.

The roof of one house was ripped off and landed 100 feet way. The elderly woman who lived in the house was trapped inside, but family members were able to rescue her.

According to the National Weather Service the tornado started along Smith Lane just north of Stowey Parkman Road and traveled about six miles. It moved northeast and reached its maximum intensity as it moved along and across Green Creek Road and Carson-Bunker Hill Road. The tornado dissipated before reaching Highway 42 west of Bassfield.
