Two women killed in one car crash

BASSFIELD, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Two women were killed when their vehicle crashed into a tree Friday evening in Bassfield.

Jefferson Davis county authorities are investigating the accident that happened around 5:30 p.m.

Coroner Jimmy Slater said the driver 53-year-old Tina Ward and passenger 49-year-old Patricia Courtney died at the scene.

Both women are from the Sumrall area.

Preliminary investigations indicate the Dodge van was traveling on Sumrall Road when ward lost control after hitting slick pavement.

The van then slammed into a tree.
