Zero tolerance might back fire

JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

The American Academy of Pediatrics reports that suspending or expelling children from school may end up creating more serious problems.

The organization says they do not support zero tolerance policies in schools and recommend administrators consider punishments on a case by case basis.

That's because research shows students who are expelled or given out of school suspension are ten times more likely to drop out of high school.

Also, these punishments often put troubled kids back into a risky environment especially if there is no parent home to supervise.
