COAHOMA COUNTY, MS -
(WMC-TV) - The search for a missing Clarksdale, Mississippi mayoral candidate resumed Wednesday morning.
Marco McMillian, 34, could not be located after his car was involved in an accident near the Coahoma-Tallahatchie County line on Tuesday.
The crash sent two people to the hospital. One of the drivers involved in the collision was treated and released. The other was airlifted to The MED.
While the physical search with the MBI state investigators will resume Wednesday morning, Coahoma County Sheriff's Deputies are still working the case.
McMillian's church friends and family fear the worst for a man they say could have changed Clarksdale.
They held a vigil at the fellowship hall of Jerusalem Baptist Church Tuesday night to pray for their missing friend.
"I had just talked to him Monday of last week," said friend Keomi Scott. "We were all here, we were all rooting for him in the election for mayor and it's really hard."
"Marco McMillan, I would say the sky is the limit," friend Troy Catchings added.
Catchings is one of McMillian's brothers in the Phi Beta Sigma fraternity. McMillian served as the executive director in Washington before moving back in hopes of changing his hometown.
"He was bringing more here for us here in Clarksdale with our youth, and everybody knew him," Catchings said.
Two of McMillian's challengers for the mayor's race were also at the vigil to show their support.
A post on McMillian's campaign Facebook page states supporters are deeply concerned about his disappearance, which seemed to be on the mind of the more than 100 people holding candles at the vigil
"Wherever he has gone, he has left his mark," Scott said.
We'll be following the latest on this story in the morning. If you know anything that can help investigators call the Coahoma County Sheriff's Office.
