JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Don't let the name fool you, Pilates may sound easy, but it is a real workout and new fans say you get real results. The females from the WLBT 4 p.m. team, Barbie, Stephanie and Maggie, put Pilates to the test.

Angelia Brown owns Pilates of Jackson. She credits Pilates with changing her whole perception on working out.

"I was a gym rat. I met my husband at the gym. That's where we met. He owns the place across the street, so he's into his cardio and his fitness but it is literally, you are hitting every muscle group", Brown said.

Pilates was developed in the early 20th century. Brown says it is a body conditioning routine that helps build flexibility, at least for some of us.

"Add another stretch. Open up really big, as wide as you can," instructs Brown. "I need eight [seconds]."

"What if I only give you two," laughs meteorologist Barbie Bassett.

"Am I doing it right," questions Anchor Maggie Wade. "I'm not doing it right."

Medical reporter Stephanie Bell-Flynt chimes in, "I'm not coordinated enough for this."

Brown, a mother of three, says Pilates is even a fitness technique used by the stars. The exercise helped Beyonce get back into shape after giving birth.

"I've done Pilates for seven years, and when I [Beyonce] turn to the side, when she was with Destiny's Child, I said, 'she's doing Pilates'. Well, she changed the shape of her body. That's why she looked leaner, and longer, not hip heavy, and bottom heavy," predicts Brown.

"I'm so glad I had a tummy tuck," laughs Barbie as the Pilates workout continues.

Brown says you can see a difference in seven classes, and in 30 classes, you can change the shape of your body.
