(WMC-TV) – One of the drivers injured in a crash involving a dead North Mississippi mayoral candidate's car reveals what he saw that day.

The driver said he had no idea that this car crash would escalate into a murder investigation, all because the person who hit him was driving the car of a mayoral candidate who is now dead.

Chris Talley was driving over the Tallahatchie County line when his truck collided with another vehicle Tuesday.

"All of a sudden, it just turns as hard as it could into my lane and I jerked as hard as I could to the right," Talley said.

The car that hit Talley belonged to Marco McMillian, but an incident report lists that 22-year-old Lawrence Reed was the driver. McMillian was found dead on Wednesday. Reed has not been charged, but Talley remembers what a deputy told him at the hospital.

"The other driver of the vehicle that hit me told a deputy on scene that he had murdered somebody the night before and he had dumped the body beside a lake," Talley said.

Early Wednesday, McMillian was found somewhere near the levee in the west part of the county near the Mississippi River. Investigators will only say there is a male suspect in custody, but will not confirm his identity.

Talley feels blessed that he walked away from what he originally thought was just a car crash.

"I just remember hearing all the noise and thinking this truck is never going to stop," he recalled. "I had an angel riding with me."

Again, the driver of McMillian's car has not been charged in his death, according to the Coahoma County Sheriff's Office.
