Judge agrees to hearing on Winfield lawsuit

Posted: Updated:

JACKSON, Miss. (AP) - A federal judge will conduct a telephone hearing Monday on requests to seal documents in Kenya Burks' sexual harassment suit against the city and Mayor Paul Winfield.

The Vicksburg Post reports that U.S. Magistrate Michael T. Parker agreed this week to schedule a hearing on Burks's efforts to get more answers from Winfield in discovery and a motion by the Winfield and the city of Vicksburg to keep information they deem "salacious" or of a sexual nature out of the public domain.

Burks is suing Winfield and the city for more than $1.5 million. She has claimed she was subjected to a hostile work environment and retaliation after what she says was a consensual affair soured.

Burks was Winfield's chief of staff from July 2009 to April 2011.
