Witnesses sought after dangerous 18-wheeler road rage

NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

Police are looking for the driver of an 18-wheeler after he was accused of getting angry behind the wheel and using his big rig to shove another car out of its way.

Officers say they were left scratching their heads after the collision at the corner of Sidco Drive and Thompson Lane in south Nashville.

They said someone could have been seriously hurt, or worse, and right now they don't know who the truck driver is.

"It was an unusual situation for us," said South Precinct Cmdr. Paul Trickey.

It was an impatient trucker waiting to make a right turn, but when the car in front of him didn't move he took matters into his own hands.

Officers say the semitruck driver rolled down his window and told the car in front of him to go.

When the driver refused, the trucker used his semi to push the little car out of the way.

"Somebody could have been hurt or damaged, or where they were pushed out of the way there could have been oncoming traffic, the vehicle could have been hit," Trickey said.

Investigators say drivers need to keep it cool, as trucks and cars aren't meant to be weapons.

"We just need to encourage people, if they get upset or uptight, to just - to calm down just to recognize it's just traffic right now and that everything will be fine later," Trickey said.

Police are hoping to find out who was behind the wheel of that truck.

"We do want to identify the person that was driving the semitruck that day and hopefully be able to prosecute him or her," Trickey said.

Police say there should be several witnesses. If you're one of them, call Metro police.
