Jackson Pride 5K

Posted: Updated:

Several dozen people participated in the Jackson 5K Pride Run/Walk. The race which started at the Capitol was meant to shine light on a lack of legislation in Mississippi to protect the rights of the LGBTQ community.

"Mississippi does not have any laws for discrimination or hate crimes including sexual orientation or gender identity. We're here to raise more awareness about that and generate more momentum about that to include the LGBTQ community in a lot of legislation here in the state," said Millsaps Junior, Sarah Del Castillo.

Proceeds from the 5K will benefit "Amnesty International" and the "Human Rights Campaign."
