Radiothon raises big dollars for Batson Children's Hospital

JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Jackson area radio stations raise hundreds of thousands of dollars for the Blair E. Batson Children's Hospital.

The 2013 Mississippi Miracles Radiothon wrapped up Friday.

For three days DJs were on the air interviewing patients, parents and medical staff, raising money for the hospital.

Y101, US 96. 3, MIX 98.7 AND JACK FM as well as stations in Vicksburg broadcast live from the Batson Lobby.

"I was first diagnosed with leukemia at age 14, relapsed at age 18 and now I'm 26. Everybody here is like my family all the doctors and nurses. They're great and then I've come to the radiothon every year to raise awareness for the hospital," said Kayla Day Pearman.

"We're just really blessed the way that Mississippians continue to just give despite the news about the economy and sequester and all that kind of think. Mississippi just bends over backwards taking care of the kids. It's just amazing," said DJ Scott Steele with US 96.3.

The radiothon raised $400,754.00.
