Hinds Co. ordered to pay company's $157K tax bill

HINDS COUNTY, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Hinds County has been ordered to foot the tax bill for controversial company Airwave, LLC.

The Mississippi Department of Revenue sent a notice to the County Board of Supervisors last week. It states that Airwave is indebted to the state for taxes totaling $157,668.64. The county has been ordered to pay to the state all monies owed to Airwave. Failure to comply could result in the county becoming personally liable for the full amount, the document states.

The notice was discussed briefly at Monday morning's board meeting, but no action was taken.

"We'll have to look into it a little more. I guess it will come back to us on the next agenda," Supervisor Fisher says.

Airwave holds two maintenance contracts with the county. One pays out $60,000 per month. The second pays out $90,000 per quarter.

The company's job performance has come into question numerous times. Supervisor Fisher and Supervisor Peggy Hobson-Calhoun have voted in the past to terminate the company's contracts with the county, but their efforts have so far been unsuccessful.
