NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

Nearly 16 years after her body was discovered, one family has finally learned what happened to their missing daughter.

DNA testing has confirmed Jennifer Cole is the unidentified murder victim whose remains were found on the banks of Percy Priest Lake in March 1997.

Lack of her name didn't prevent Cole's murder from being solved, as Luther Nelson Lynch was convicted of voluntary manslaughter in 2001 based in part on various statements he made about the 22-year-old woman's death.

Police said Lynch had picked up Cole for prostitution in the Dickerson Road area in the summer of 1996. He killed her soon after and dumped the body off Alvin Sperry Road just inside Wilson County.

Lynch received a 15-year sentence but was released from prison in 2011.
