There's now more evidence that some American women aren't living as long as they used to.
Researchers at the University of Wisconsin studied recent death data from almost every U-S county.
While the overall number of premature deaths among women has dropped, they increased in almost half of the nation's counties especially in the south and west.
Some experts blame obesity, an increase in smoking and less education for shorter lives but others say there is no clear reason.
Life expectancy for men has held steady or improved in almost every county. Women still outlive men overall but this study reveals the gap has been narrowing.
This study was led by researchers at the University of Wisconsin and published in 'Health Affairs.'
