JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

The Jackson Municipal Airport Authority has announced that its 50th Anniversary Air Show has been canceled. The show was scheduled for May 11-12 and was to feature the United States Navy's "Blue Angels" and the United States Army Special Forces "Black Daggers."

The air show would have celebrated the 50th anniversary of the airport in Rankin County.

Uncertainty surrounding the continued impacts of the federal budget sequestration requirements, availability of support from the various participants, and other funding issues, on the local and national level are the reasons given for the cancellation.

"In consideration of the amount of time, effort, funding and community support that JMAA relies on to provide an event of this caliber, we have chosen to cancel this year's air show," said Dirk Vanderleest, CEO of the Jackson Municipal Airport Authority. "We are very pleased with the amount of support JMAA received from our corporate sponsors, our community and business partners, and wish to extend our gratitude to them."
