JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Family of Larry Fisher contacted WLBT to confirm the former Hinds County EOC Director died at his home in Byram Saturday.

Family members say Fisher died of an apparent heart attack.

Fisher became Director of the EOC in 1989 and retired from the position in 2009.

Prior to his position with EOC, Fisher had retired as Deputy Chief from the Jackson Police Department in 1981.

Emergency Management officials say he was well respected in the state in his profession.

Fisher, who was in his mid-70's, was an active member of the Byram Volunteer Fire Department after he retired.

Funeral arrangements have not yet been announced.
