Dept. of Education hosted 'Go Hard Spring Break Tour' on drop out prevention

JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

As high schoolers prepare for Spring Break, a state program is reminding teens why it's important to stay in school.

The State Department of Education hosted its "Go Hard Spring Break Tour" at Raymond High School Saturday afternoon.

The goal is to decrease the dropout rate in the state. There was plenty of free food and music. The program has a big goal educators believe can be accomplished in Mississippi, by using technology and other new tools in the classroom.

"We just can't use the traditional ways of teaching our children, whether it's in the school building or in the home setting. We have to be a little bit more creative," said John Neal, Hinds County School District Community Relations.

The pilot program is targeting 13 school districts through out the state.
