Local, state and county officials hosted an official ribbon cutting ceremony for the East Metro Parkway Wednesday morning.

The two and a half mile stretch of road travels from south of the intersection of Lakeland Drive and Old Fannin Road to El Dorado Road. The East Metro Parkway is expected to help ease traffic along Old Fannin Road and Lakeland Drive.

The ultimate goal, once all phases of this project are complete is to construct the parkway so that it extends to I-20 in Brandon.
