CLINTON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -
Sixth grade students at Clinton's Lovett Elementary School will finish the remaining nine weeks of the school year at the old Eastside campus on Easthaven Drive.
Lovett sustained heavy hail damage in Monday's hailstorm. The Clinton Public School District says Lovett's roof will have to be replaced and there's a concern that moisture could promote the growth of mildew and mold.
Financial assessments of damage are still underway. But reports state that the hail broke 63 windows and battered vehicles in the parking lot. Staff worked to salvage what they could, protecting computers and other equipment with plastic tarps.
Now, teachers, staff and volunteers are working to pack things up at the school to move them to Eastside. The district plans to start classes at the old Eastside campus Monday.
Monday's storm hit at the end of the school day and most of the school's 350 students were already gone. No one was injured, according to CPSD.
Lovett students spent Tuesday and Wednesday boarding buses and finding their way around different campuses. The students were transferred to three other schools -- Clinton high, Eastside elementary and Sumner Hill Junior High.
Report cards for Clinton students are supposed to be going out this week but because of the damage at Lovett Elementary those students will not be getting their report cards until next week.
