Steady line of customers keep windshield repair shop busy

JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

It's been five days since a hailstorm hit the Jackson Metro. Business is still brisk at the Safelite Auto Glass tent set up at the Mississippi State Fairgrounds.

"We been doing over here about 70 (cars a day). We have about four cars scheduled every hour and we are taking add-ins as we can," said employee Randall Hendrick.

Safelite is taking up to 70 calls a day, at one point it reached 1,000 calls a day.

The company's Jackson office is even busier.

Technicians from San Antonio and Memphis have been brought in to meet the demand.

Now the challenge is ordering glass. Once an order is processed, if Safelite doesn't have the correct glass in stock it will be shipped from a warehouse in the Southeast.

"Every car is different. Every windshield is different. You can have a particular car... if it has a rain sensor things alike that. We have to ask a lot of questions to make sure we have the right glass in stock," said Hendrick.

State Farm and Allstate insurance companies are also located at the fairgrounds. A representative was not available Saturday to speak with the media, but there was a steady line of customers.

Each business says you should book an appointment before coming to get your vehicle inspected or repaired at Safelite.
