SIMPSON COUNTY, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

A Simpson County mom is accused of allowing her teenage daughter to be sexually abused. Tanya McAlister has been indicted on a charge of felony neglect and has posted $10,000 bond.

The accused molester is Gary Bates. Bates was first indicted in September on a sexual battery of a female child under the age of 14 charge. He was indicted again last week, along with McAlister.

District Attorney Daniel Jones said the case against Bates and McAlister is strong. Bates remains in the Simpson County jail.

In 2001, Bates testified against 76-year-old David Earl King in the abuse of a 14-year-old boy who attended King's Walthall County church. Bates admitted to having sex with the victim. He entered a guilty plea to conspiracy, was given probation and was not required to register as a sex offender.
