Cold sore virus linked to memory difficulty

The virus that causes cold sores may affect your thinking and memory abilities.

A new study published in the journal Neurology finds people who have higher levels of infection in their blood.

For example they had repeatedly been exposed to the herpes virus that causes cold sores were more likely to score poorly on memory and thinking tests.

In the study, researchers looked for five common infections in blood samples taken from 1,600 adults who lived in Manhattan.

Those with the highest infection levels scored the worst and the risk was more common in women, people with low levels of education and those who did not exercise.
