JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Many insured drivers are still waiting to get their car's damage evaluated after the hail storm, and that has to be done before drivers can ever have repairs made. Those whose vehicle was damaged by the recent hail storm may have seen the temporary claim centers around the Metro and wondered why they still haven't gotten a response from the insurance company.

Insurance companies, however, say there is such a high volume of claims, they'll be set up in Jackson indefinitely. The companies are asking for even more patience. A steady stream of cars is driving into the mobile claims centers. Such severe hail damage isn't common for this area. And because it was so widespread, a specialized team from across the country has assembled to try and speed up the tedious process.

"That's my major transportation, being a pastor traveling here and there on the road a lot, I need my vehicle. But I do understand the massiveness of this particular storm. So it's just going to take a little time. You just have to be patient," voiced one driver.

Even members of the State Farm catastrophe team say this damage isn't the norm.

"Been doing this for 15 years and this is certainly one of the heaviest damaged areas that I've seen on automobiles from a hail event, such as this," explained Jim Kachelmuss, Catastrophe Services Team Manager.

Because all insurance companies have a high volume of claims in the area, they say wait times for estimates will vary.

"We continue to adjust staffing and add appointments here in our drive-in to create availability. So it's really difficult to say the amount of time it will take because again we continue to add appointments and what not," said Kachelmuss.

Around 120 people from out of state have come into Jackson in the past week for State Farm reinforcement.

"We are fully functional now and we'll be seeing approximately 600 cars a day through our five locations in our downed car assignments. So things are going to start moving very rapidly for everybody," Kachelmuss said.

Making an appointment is the first step, but State Farm explained what to expect when you arrive. Appointments last about an hour, but if your car is repairable, you'll get an estimate and check before driving away.
