(WMC-TV) -  A Memphis bartender was arrested on a simple assault charge Wednesday following an incident at a Midtown bar where a disabled police retiree was thrown out, police said.

Memphis police confirm the bartender arrested is Mark Taylor from Jack Magoo's Sports Bar & Grill.

Victim Brian Roper retired from the Germantown Police Department as a captain after a stroke which left him with a communication disorder.  He was thrown out of a Midtown bar Friday because the bartender thought he was intoxicated.

In an interview with Roper that is only on Action News 5, he showed bruises on both of his arms. He also had a big bruise on his chest and a cut on his head that was treated at the hospital.

He said security did not understand him, got mad, and threw him onto the sidewalk.

According to a police report, security guards were forced to physically remove Roper when an employee could not understand his order.
