5K run for principal battling cancer

Posted: Updated:
JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

A 5K run Saturday morning at the Germantown High School Track will raise money for an elementary school principal battling a rare form of cancer.

Camden Elementary School principal April DeLoach is battling A. L. L., which usually affects children and is rare in adults. The cancer over produces white blood cells.

The 5K run, which starts at 8 a.m., is sponsored by DeLoach's family, friends, and the BeTheMatch.Org Foundation, and will raise money to pay for DeLoach's medical expenses.

She needs a bone marrow transplant, and the search is on for a donor. A special booth will be on site for those who would like to find out if they are a bone marrow donor match or would like to sign up for the national bone marrow registry.

For information on this event and how you can help visit Team April DeLoach on Facebook.
