VICKSBURG, MS (AP) - The Vicksburg Warren School District is switching to four-by-four block schedules beginning this fall.

The Vicksburg Post reports that it means longer class periods of junior high and senior high students but fewer each day. The school board approved the change this past week.

The schools affected are Grove Street School, Vicksburg Junior High School, Vicksburg High School, Warren Central Junior High and Warren Central High School.

Assistant Superintendent Paula Johnson says the modified block schedules will consist of 4 100-minute class periods each day that may be divided for flexibility. The first period will begin at 7:15 a.m. and end at 8:50. The school day will end at 2:35 p.m.

Each class will last one semester, instead of the full school year.
