The Department of Revenue may have a new home soon. The three building finalists were the Landmark Building in downtown Jackson, The former Diversified Technology building in Ridgeland and South Point, the former World Com headquarters, in Clinton.
The Department of Finance and Administration has determined that South Point in Clinton, was the best and most economical choice. Millions were at stake for the owners of the three buildings in addition to a real economic boost to the city that was selected.
A lot of very powerful people lobbied for their choice. You can bet this decision will be thoroughly scrutinized. The one decision that shouldn't be questioned is that there are enough vacant and underutilized buildings in the metro area that State Government shouldn't spend a penny of taxpayer's money on costly new buildings.
