RANKIN COUNTY, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

A Rankin County school was temporarily evacuated and an employee was hospitalized after a chlorine gas leak Thursday.

Rankin County Emergency Management Agency Director Bob Wedgeworth says an employee was working on a water system installation at Piney Woods School when the leak occurred. The employee was taken to a local hospital. There's no word on his condition.

Wedgeworth said the Occupational Safety and Health Administration is investigating the incident.

Piney Woods School posted the following statement on its Facebook page Thursday:

The chlorine gas leak on campus has been secured and the Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality has given us permission to return to our normal schedule. All faculty, staff, and students are safe and were very cooperative during the evacuation.
