JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Mayor Harvey Johnson and Jackson Police Chief Rebecca Coleman are asking all citizens to observe a moment of silence today at 12:00 noon for fallen Detective Eric Smith.

"Let us all come together as a city to mourn the loss of this exceptional member of the Jackson Police Department family," said Mayor Johnson.  "Though we will never know the full measure of sorrow experienced by the family of Detective Smith, we can let them know that we stand with them during this difficult time."

Chief Coleman has also directed staff to broadcast this request across the nation to all law enforcement agencies using the NCIC database.
