JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Jackson police need your help locating the person responsible for fatally shooting a man Wednesday morning.

Police were called out around 5 a.m. to the 100 block of Georgia Avenue. That's where 33-year-old Robert Polk was found dead in the street.

Police said Polk was shot once in the head. Witnesses called police after hearing gun shots fired.

"The witnesses they advised police that they heard gunshots in the area and they thought that it was somebody outside, so once we arrived on scene we found a body lying in the middle of the street," said Jackson Police Officer Colendula Green.

Polk's family members are now sending a powerful message to the person or people responsible.

"We need y'all's help man. Y'all help us. Y'all help us please. If y'all know anything, please turn these people in man. Please turn them in. We hurtin'," said Polk's sister who wished to remain unidentified.

Family members believe witnesses may know more than they're sharing with police. But say it wasn't unusual for Polk to be on Georgia Avenue because he had several friends that live in the neighborhood.

"Think about it, your son, your daughter, your brother, your uncle. Cause he's an uncle, he's a father and he's a son. He ain't never gonna be forgotten. He ain't never gonna be forgotten," said his sister.

Relatives saw Polk this week and didn't sense that anything was wrong. His seven siblings are worried about the effects the news will have on their mother.

"Children is not supposed to be buried by parents. We supposed to bury our parents. Parents don't supposed to bury they children. But it's going on everyday. People killing one another and my brother did not deserve that," explained his sister.

Now they're hoping their tears will be met with more answers than questions in the coming days.
