VICKSBURG, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

A Yorkshire terrier is recovering after being run over during a domestic dispute.

Director Georgia Lynn says Warren County Judge Johnny Price turned 4 pound, 9 ounce Milo over to the Vicksburg Warren Humane Society Thursday.

Authorities say 22-year-old Jason E. Henke intentionally ran over Milo last week during an argument with his girlfriend. Henke is charged with animal cruelty and is free on $1,000 bond.

Price ruled the dog might continue to be neglected if returned to Henke's care.

"I can't believe he even survived being run over by a car," Lynn said. "His injuries were so severe."

Lynn says Milo suffered two broken hips and a broken leg. He needs another surgery and will be in the animal hospital for several more weeks. He's expected to make a full recovery.

Lynn says dozens of people have expressed interest in adopting Milo, and many have donated toward his medical expenses.

"Vicksburg is really pulling together," Lynn said. "This isn't the first time the community has come together to help an animal."
