Supervisor Stokes offers potential Anderson replacement

HINDS COUNTY, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

One Hinds County supervisor has a proposal for who will replace Doug Anderson's seat on the board.

At a press conference Sunday afternoon, Supervisor Kenneth Stokes said Anderson's wife should take the District Two seat. He said appointing an elected official's spouse, after their death, has been a common occurrence in the state.

He wants supervisors to start researching the legal possibilities as soon as possible.

Stokes said he has not spoken with Josephine Anderson about taking her husband's seat, but believes she would be the perfect fit.

"Not only is she knowledgeable, not only does she know the district, but I think it's the humane thing to do when a person has lost a spouse that the spouse should have the opportunity to complete the work of her husband," expressed Supervisor Stokes.

Stokes says he would like to see an appointment made to fill the rest of Anderson's term in the next couple of weeks.
