JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Charlotte Reeves and her husband have owned the A-1 Pallet Company on Clifton Street in Jackson for 30 years. But she says they're getting ready to sell the land to Jackson State for a new use.

"We have been talking with the school and we are willing to relocate our business and relocate to be able to give them the opportunity to build their domed stadium quickly; and it can be built in 18 months," said Reeves.

The family owns more than just the land where their business sits. Over the years, they've acquired over 20 acres in the neighborhood.

"We've had to tear down a lot of the housing because the vagrants would come around and start little fires, tear it up, do things like that. So we had to tear it down. So it's just open land now," explained Reeves.

Reeves says they were originally disappointed to hear the legislature wouldn't be funding the project but then realized that private investors could be the key to moving the project along quickly.

"We are the largest property owner that they'll be dealing with. It's already a done deal. We can just say it's a done deal because the other small properties, we've already talked with them. They want to see it happen, too," confirmed Reeves.

Their land sits within a mile of campus and they say they've always considered the school to be their neighbor. Now, they're hoping the domed stadium could be the boost this part of town so desperately needs.

"Jackson State and this area, this street, is the connector to downtown and the Convention Center. And on up to Mill Street where the Farish Street Historical District is. So it's just all going to tie in," Reeves said.

Jackson State would not release any details and would only say they haven't started buying any property at this point.
