JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Most municipalities want the first impression to be the best. That's not what motorists get when they enter Jackson on Interstate-55 northbound as it splits off to Interstate 20 East.

The faded sign says Mobile Home Transporters, but the only thing transported here is garbage, and lots of it. Everything from old tires, to used appliances to neatly stacked piles of vegetation, apparent landscaping remnants, has been dumped at the location.

It's hard to miss because it is just off the northbound Interstate 55 Frontage Road around the mile 92 marker just before the highway merges into Interstate 20 East. Clearly, it's not a good first impression of the Capital City for a motorist new to the area.

WLBT's Howard Ballou contacted city spokesperson, Quita Bride. She explained there is a new case on the lot and the Community Improvement Division is working to find the owner to notify them of code violations.

Bride adds the owner will be given an opportunity to correct the problem because it's ultimately their responsibility, and it's state law. She said if the problems are not corrected in a reasonable amount of time, the city will take action.

We will keep you posted. Let us help you take back your neighborhood. Just send an email to hballou@wlbt.com.
