In early morning raids Tuesday law enforcement officers arrested 13 people they believe are lower- to mid-level drug dealers in and around Monticello.
Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics Director Marshall Fisher says the arrests stem from a six-month safe streets
operation conducted by the MBN, with assistance
from the Lawrence County Sheriff Department and Monticello police.
Those arrested face felony charges for allegedly selling
or possessing crack and powdered cocaine, methamphetamine and marijuana, as
well as the prescription drugs hydrocodone and Xanax.
Some also face conspiracy charges because the
alleged offenses occurred while they were accompanied by others.
Agents seized more than $2300 in cash and five
weapons, including an assault rifle, Director Fisher added.
The suspects were booked into the Lawrence County
Jail, where they are being held pending initial court appearances.
