PEARL, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Residents in the metro area have access to free dental care Saturday. The Mississippi Dental Association Foundation in partnership with the Mission of Mercy is offering services for no cost inside the Hinds County Community College Muse Center.

A 100 chair makeshift dental office fills the entire room welcoming every patient that steps foot through the door.

"I think it's wonderful. Because there are a lot of people that don't have dental insurance and they could really use this," patient Terri Thompson said.

From cleanings and fillings to extractions, services are performed free of charge to patients of all ages. Thompson said she is thankful doctors have taken time out of their busy schedule to help others.

"Truly, it's really expensive. I had some work done for my son and 1,100 dollars worth of work. I did not have insurance, so that was an out of pocket expense," Thompson said.

Dr. Ed Holliday is a dentist in Tupelo. He said dentists, dental hygienists, assistants and many other people from across the state are volunteering hours of time free of charge.

"We're here to help the people during these hard economic times. We've been through a long recession and there's people who have taken care of their children, but haven't taken care of themselves because of financial reasons they're trying to get in to see a dentist. So we are here to help fill in those cracks," Holliday said.

He says the Mississippi Dental Association Foundation has spent an entire year working to raise money to make this event a success.

"We have to raise over a 100,000 dollars just to rent the equipment. We have dental supply companies supply the filling material," Holliday said.

The free services will be offered on Saturday inside the Muse Center at Hinds County Community College in Pearl from 6 a.m. until 3 p.m.
