Hundreds run in '5-K Run for Health'

JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Hundreds of you laced up your tennis shoes with the state's top leader for a workout through downtown Jackson Saturday morning.

Governor Phil Bryant took to the streets running with Mississippians for the second "5K Run for Health." The race was organized to help fight obesity across the Magnolia State.

The event also honored the police and emergency officials who rescued and helped save lives during the Boston marathon bombings.

"I led the Department of Public Safety today, some 50 officers came out, we wanted to show our support for the men and women and first responders, law enforcement officers involved who gave their very lives to people they didn't know," said Governor Phil Bryant.

Participants from the run raised $10,000 for the Blair E. Batson Children's Hospital.
