Preemies need certain supplements

JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Babies born prematurely lack strong bones, so experts are now recommending Vitamin D and calcium supplements be given to preemies while in the hospital and when they go home.

Doctors at Baylor College of Medicine say two to four hundred IU's of Vitamin D each day should make up for a lack of the vitamin in their diet.

These babies also have an increased risk for rickets, so calcium or phosphorous supplements are recommended.
