A young Jackson businessman with no political experience has delivered a stunning blow to the incumbent mayor of Jackson. Jonathan Lee pulled out in front and led the field all evening.
Lee received 35% of the total vote, while Mayor Harvey Johnson received only 21%.
Lee's victory party was packed with supporters. He cheered them on saying he was the candidate for everyone in Jackson.
Lee with his wife and child by his side told the crowd it's time to renew the city of Jackson, but noted it can't happen overnight, even with a change of leadership.
"At the end of the day we have to make the table larger, make the table larger, no matter where you are from, no matter what areas of town," said Lee. "We got to make the table larger, that's what I'm talking about. I think all of the answers to our problems can be found right here in our community."
Lee said Mayor Harvey Johnson paved the way for him, and he had to show his respect.
He added it was a well fought race, but it's time for a change.
Lee and his campaign are now preparing to start again as they prepare for the runoff election in two weeks.
