City of Pearl celebrates 40 years

Pearl celebrates a milestone during its annual city celebration.

Pearl Day is bigger this year as the Rankin County city celebrates the 40th anniversary of its founding.

The usual favorites, such as arts and crafts, rides and food were there for the family.There was also live music on a several stages to entertain the crowd Saturday afternoon.

City leaders say this event is a perfect time to look at the Pearl's past and be optimistic about the future.

"I've said over and over, we're 40 years young. And what I mean by that is, 40 years is young for a city, but we've come a long way in 40 years; from a little, small town, dot on the map, to what we are today, and we're proud of our city," said Mayor Brad Rogers.

Pearl Day will continue until about 11:30 tonight.

Country music star Jo Dee Messina is scheduled to take the stage at 8:30.

Mississippi native and Country singer Jeff Bates will also entertain the crowd.
