JEFFERSON COUNTY, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Jefferson County Sheriff Peter Walker has identified the woman found dead in the cemetery of East Mount Olive Baptist Church Wednesday night.

Walker says 24-year-old Trencia Collins of Fayette died from a single gunshot wound to the chest.

The pastor and church members found Collins' body while on the way to Bible study shortly before 6:30 p.m. The church is on Red Lick Road near Lorman off of Highway 552.

Investigators said the single mother's body was dumped behind a tool shed and appeared to have been there for several hours.

The sheriff says he believes Collins was killed at another location and was placed in the church's cemetery.

"No one is in custody yet, but we are interviewing people as we speak, interviewing people to determine actually her whereabouts.  We've narrowed it down pretty close but we don't know exactly yet," said Sheriff Walker.

Collins' family last spoke with her Wednesday morning. The State Crime lab is assisting with the investigation.

The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office is asking anyone with information to contact them.

Investigators say they're also pulling phone records, in hopes of determining who Collins came in contact with.
