Children celebrate Dream Night at Jackson Zoo

HINDS COUNTY, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Critically ill and special needs children got a special night at the Jackson Zoo. This is an annual event sponsored by St. Dominic Hospital.

The children and their families have the whole zoo to themselves and zoos across the country also hold this event which is called Dream Night. Children enjoyed Inky The Clown, a magician, food, and of course the stars of Dream Night are the animals.

"You can easily see how much fun they are having here. They're all happy and smiling, and they're not so crowded. A lot of these children have space issues, and can't handle a big crowd like a normal day at the zoo. So it's also a little bit cooler since its after 5 p.m. and their parents don't have to worry about anything. It's a completely free event," said the PR Director for the Zoo, Angela Shepard.

Children from Little Light House, The Mustard Seed and Blair E. Batson Children's Hospital come out for the free event. Last year about 100 children and their families signed up. This year there were more than 300.
