WASHINGTON, D. C (Mississippi News Now) -

Congressman Bennie G. Thompson has introduced H.R. 2326, a bill directing the Secretary of the Department of Interior to review the homestead of Medgar Evers as a precondition to adding it to the National Park Service system.

"As we stand at the 50th commemoration of his assassination, I consider the results of this legislation befitting to honor the change Medgar's life had on this nation and the demand for progress his death had on the Civil Rights Movement," said Thompson. "The Medgar Evers home is a significant memorial to the contributions of the Civil Rights Era."

The resolution has been referred to the House Committee on Natural Resources.
